Men's Cardigans

I know what you're thinking: Isn't this what Mr. Rogers wore? It is, but the new cardigans are not something Mr. Rogers would pick up while shopping.

Harrison Cable Knit Cardigan, $149.99 from Blue Fly

Harrison Cable Knit Cardigan, $149.99 from Blue Fly

Cardigans are a great alternative to sweaters. This winter give your standard sweaters a break and take your look to the next level with a cardigan. You will have the same overall look with a cardigan, but you will appear more stylish, trendy and put together.

When wearing a cardigan to work, wear a dress shirt underneath- tie optional. On a casual Friday, feel free to roll up your sleeves over the cardigan's sleeves and push them up just below the elbow. You can also leave the cardigan unbuttoned for casual work days.

You can wear your cardigan to hang out with friends, watch football, grocery shopping, taking the dog out or any other weekend activity. Slouchy jeans, casual sneakers, a simple t-shirt (solid or graphic) with a cardigan, buttoned or not, makes for an easy, comfortable outfit.

Double Breasted Cardigan, $68.96 from Asos

Just think: you are watching tv, wearing jeans and a t-shirt, a girl calls to hang out, all you need to do is throw on a cardigan. Not only is that a simple way to dress up an outfit, but she'll also think you are stylish.

Replay Hand Made Cardigan, $215.50 from Asos

When shopping for cardigans, look for styles that fit close to the body; you don't want it to be tight, but you also don't want it look look too big or boxy. Added detailing like contrast piping, color blocking, zippers and the like makes cardigans modern. Keep these things in mind and you won't end up looking like grandpa.

Puffer Coat for Men

The puffer jacket is one of my favorites to keep warm during the winter. Puffer jackets are waterproof, comfortable, versatile and most importantly warm. My white puffer jacket is a go-to item whether I'm taking my dog out, going out with friends or running to the grocery store.

This fall/winter, the puffer jacket is popular for men as well as women. Men will really like this style of jacket because it is so versatile. They can wear it to work over sweaters and trousers, to happy hour with denim and even on a beer run with distressed jeans.

There are a variety of puffer jackets that include hoodies, fur trim, shiny material, and colors other than the standby brown and black.

John Galliano Menswear Spring 2011

John Galliano recently showed his menswear Spring 2011 collection in Milan. Menswear usually does not interest me, but this collection was inspired by Charlie Chaplin and has that signature Galliano flare.

Baggier pants and both jackets that are too big and too small were seen. Men can breathe easier now knowing that they need not to fit into super skinny pants and jeans come Spring.

A dark, yet slightly comedic, mood could be felt with the too big, round toed shoes and caps. Newsboy caps and fedoras perched atop the heads of men whose wild black waves had momentarily been tamed.

Muddy colors dominated: brown, tan, navy, cream, military green. Bits of checked pattern peeked out from under jackets and were layered under button down shirts. Layering button down shirts, vests, and jackets are a must.

The lovable trap paraded down the runway in a metallic trench, cinched tightly at the waist. Men can translate this into everyday wear with a classic trench, but try a darker brown instead of the traditional khaki.

Galliano also showed lighter colored suits, but still played with proportions. Imagine Chaplin at a horse race, or sitting on a Southern patio sipping a mint julep or iced tea.

Thom Browne: Men & Fur

Thom Browne showed lots and lots of fur and grey in his men's fall/winter 2010 collection during NY Fashion Week. This collection reminds me of Jonathan Rhys Meyers' King Henry on The Tudors.
