My Favorite Lines Series: Haute Hippie

Haute Hippie sounds like an oxymoron...perhaps it is, but it is also a clothing line that you need to know. Haute Hippie was founded just two years ago in the fall of 2008 by Trish Wescoat Pound in New York City. Previously, she worked for Theory and Michael Kors before launching her own line.

The line is about freedom, expressing who you are, passion and the blending of various styles from different eras and places in the world. This philosophy embodies what young women are looking for in their clothing, and Haute Hippie as nailed it.

The line is contemporary, yet nostalgic, and even whimsical, at the same time. The detailing is what sets this line apart from others. Plus, you can find anything from an oversized cardigan to a sequin embellished top to a layered tulle skirt.

Plaid Does Not Mean Lumberjack

Plaid is one of the hottest patterns of the season, so you need to know how to wear it and be chic while doing so. Plaid can easily turn lumberjack with the wrong pattern and pairings.

To keep from looking like Paul Bunyon, keep plaids small. Huge plaid patterns will make you look larger than you actually are. Also, make sure the top or dress you are wearing fits well. Wearing a baggy top will also do you no favors in the mountain woman department.

Look for plaid pieces with feminine details, like ruffles and bows. Also, keep your eye out for plaid items with a feminine cut, like racerback tops, lower cut on top, and dresses that skim the waist.

Plaids in different colors other than red will give your outfit a fun twist. You can find plaids in blue, gray, teal, pink and more. Red plaid is classic, just be sure you keep it minimal so you don't look like a Christmas present or logger.

Priorities Delia Plaid Blouse, $72.99 from Blue Fly

Pair your plaid pieces with body conscious clothing- that means no boyfriend or baggy jeans! Think skinny jeans, jeggings, leggings, liquid leggings, patterned tights and mini-skirts. Cropped blazers and body hugging jackets (think moto) will give you a great feminine silhouette. Also, heels, strappy sandals and slim (not chunky!) boots will streamline your look.

If you are daring, you can try clogs with a denim mini-skirt paired with a plaid top. Also, a plaid top, chain belt, skinny jeans and riding boots is a fun look. Make your plaid look tough with liquid leggings, a cropped moto jacket and platform heels- even add spiked accessories form CC Skye!

Plaid is a fun pattern that is perfect for fall and winter. Give the trend a try, just keep your overall look feminine and not woodsy!

Must Have Fall Bags

A new bag can update your ensemble without a lot of money, time or effort. There are a few bags that are must haves this season: black, metallic, quilted, purple and a tote.

You can find these trendy bags in a variety of styles and price points. I look for bags that fit the trends, but can be worn for more than one season and that are affordable.

Men's Fall Shoe Trends

Men seem to wear their standard look day after day. But, guys, you can follow the trends too! Shoes are good way to change up your look because it is subtle, but still noticeable. And, ladies always say they notice a guy's shoes to help them formulate their first impression. So, trendy, nice shoes will get you a few points with the opposite sex.

Just like with women, oxford shoes are becoming the "it" shoe for men this fall/winter. Blue loafers and gray oxfords are what you need this year to be on top of the fashion heap.

Now, I know blue suede shoes sound trés scary to most fellows, but they really aren't! Keep the rest of your outfit simple, like jeans or black pants with a solid black, white, gray or camel colored shirt or sweater. And since blue is a bright color, blue shoes will be more informal or for nights out. To avoid Elvis territory, look for blue shoes with details that make them modern.

Gray is a neutral color, and with all the various shades, it is easy to incorporate gray loafers or oxfords into your wardrobe. With gray you don't have to worry as much about your shoes taking over your entire outfit, so wear these more liberally.

Dolce and Gabbana Grey Suede Oxfords, $379.99 from Blue Fly

Oxfords are easy to wear since they are a classic shoe that hasn't changed much. The color will simply update them and make the oxford modern- don't worry, you can still wear them to work.

Gentlemen, be brave and try a new trend this fall/winter. Trying new shoes is a great way to incorporate current trends and styles into your wardrobe without doing an entire style overhaul!
