MAC Fall/Winter Trend Report
Red lips are classically chic; this fall the red lip is being tweaked a bit. Try different textures: matte, glossy, satin. Lip liner is a must to keep reds where they belong. Be daring and wear red during the day.

SATIN EYES
Dark eyes without being traditionally smoky is the trend for this fall/winter. This is a modern twist on a classic look. Try different shapes with your shadow and liner, even bare lashes work this season.

Eye Shadow in Typographic Asphalt black, matte²
My bonus pick: Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack Black

Limited edition eyeshadows and blushes only come in the regular plastic containers ("pots") and not in the pro-palette form. Fortunately, I have successfully depotted many eyeshadows, several contour powders, and even a blush or two. If these are as good as they sound, I'll be doing a little depotting come September. Just follow the simple directions from Temptalia and you'll be in good shape. Note: Don't let your flat iron get too hot and don't do this with mineralized products.

Lush Lashes
As a person with an eyelash obsession, I have tried tons of brands, lengthening formulas, thickening formulas, undercoats and even the mascara that becomes tubes around your lashes.
Now, I believe I have finally found the best solution. My hairstylist asked if I had eyelash extensions and my husband (and for a guy to notice lashes, they must stand out) said that my eyelashes looked fake.
To begin, curl your lashes with a Shu Uemura curler ($19). Get the curler as close to the base of your eyelashes as possible; be careful not to pinch your lid! Squeeze and hold for twenty seconds per eye. This is the best curler I have ever used, and it is well worth the money.
Apply a lengthening mascara to your upper lashes. I have found MAC's Zoom Fast Black Lash ($13) does the job best. Start at the base of your outer lashes and wiggle the wand up; continue this until you reach your inner lashes.
If needed, comb your lashes to separate them. If you have very straight lashes, you can curl them again. Be sure that the mascara is dry before curling lashes again or you will end up with lots of clumps.
Take a thickening/volumizing mascara and apply a second coat of mascara to your top lashes. My favorite is MAC's Opulash ($14). Comb your lashes if they appear too clumpy.
inally, use a waterproof mascara on your lower lashes. I use MAC's Splashproof Lash ($13) for my lower lashes, and as my go-to waterproof mascara when I'm at the pool or beach. I like using a waterproof formula on my bottom lashes to combat the black under eye smudges some mascaras leave. When you apply mascara to your lower lashes, take time to only get the lashes and not any on your lash line.
For the thickest and longest looking lashes, use the blackest mascara you can find.
For precise mascara application, a magnified mirror is helpful. A magnified mirror is also great for eye shadow application.
If you use MAC's Fix+ ($18), which I highly recommend, spritz before doing your lashes to avoid any smearing or smudging.

Rodarte for MAC
Like their fall/winter Rodarte collection, Kate and Laura said their makeup collection is inspired by Texas border towns. The sisters took a road trip through West Texas and saw how the immigrants live. Many immigrants work in maquiladoras, are very poor and live in towns with high crime rates. The models were pale, with disheveled hair and clothing patched together with many different fabrics and textures. It was sad and beautiful at the same time.
Now, the makeup collection is catching heat with the names given to the products, namely, a nail lacquer called Juarez. Ciudad JĂșarez is in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, just across the Rio Grande from El Paso, Texas. The city exemplifies border towns- violent crime, poor, abundant drug use, prostitution and factory work.
When people realized the condition of the city the nail polish is named for, they called for MAC to help the residents. MAC pledged to donate a portion of the money from the sale of the collection. However, just a day later, MAC has announced that some of the items will be renamed before the September 15 launch.
The collection will be available in MAC stores, online and select department store counters. Luckily, our friends at Temptalia got their hands on the collection early.

Makeup for the Pool & Beach
Hair is simple- a pony tail or loose bun is quick, add a headband for fly-aways or a few bobby pins to keep bangs back, top it all off with a hat to shade your precious face and protect your hair from the sun. The sun is the enemy of colored hair!
Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15, $14.50
Wearing makeup and protecting your face goes hand in hand; just follow these simple steps:
- After cleansing your face, apply oil free sunscreen and let it dry
- Apply facial lotion with sunscreen; I like Arbonne's RE9 Restorative Day Creme SPF 20 (Click here to order)
- Apply MAC's Mineralize Satinfinish SPF 15 Foundation
- Set foundation with MAC's Iridescent Powder; this powder is great because it is not heavy and gives you a glow
- Apply MAC's Blushcreme to the apples of your cheeks for subtle color; just touch your index finger once to the blush (really, just down and then right back up) and dab on to your cheeks, blend using your fingers
- Use MAC's Shadestick, Paint Pot, or Paint as eyeshadow- layer, mix and have fun!
- Apply eyeliner on your top lid with MAC's Powerpoint Eye Pencil
- Curl lashes (clamp lashes as close to the base as possible and hold for 20 seconds) and apply MAC's Splashproof Lash mascara
- Apply MAC's Tinted Lip Conditioner SPF 15; this product will melt if exposed to direct sunlight, so keep it in a cosmetics bag in your beach bag and cover it with your coverup, extra towel, etc
- Spay face with MAC's Fix + and use a brush to dab all over your face- like a 182 or 150 brush
Just remember to pick colors that aren't too dark or harsh. It is better to use golds, corals, pinks and even teals rather than darker blues, purples or grays.
Mineralize Satinfinish SPF 15 Foundation, $29.50
By following these simples steps you will look beautiful and fresh; you will also be protecting your face from the sun. Don't forget sunglasses and to apply sunscreen all over your body- including your neck, ears, hands and tops of your feet!
To purchase MAC products, visit MAC Pro, MAC or a MAC counter. To purchase Arbonne products, visit Christina Hayward's site.
